Kenneth Dale Chaney, 84, of La Grange and formerly of Austin, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

Visitation will be Friday, January 22 from 6-8 PM at Harrell Funeral Home Austin, TX. Services will follow on Saturday, January 23 at 3 PM at the same location. Being a Colonel upon retirement from the military, a brief service and burial will be held Tuesday, January 26, in San Antonio, Texas at the Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Ken was born October 18, 1925 in Johnson County, Texas to R.T. and Sarah Edith (Bransom) Chaney. He served in the Navy, Army, Texas National Guard, and Army Reserve while also working full time for the Texas National Guard for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors spending time with family fishing, camping, hunting, and skeet shooting.

He married Mary Frances Campsey on June 3, 1950 in Texarkana, Arkansas. Much of their married life was spent in the Texas towns of Weatherford, Paris, and Austin. After Mary's death he moved to La Grange to spend time with his daughter, granddaughters and their families especially his great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his sister, Jo Hewett of Burleson; one daughter, Anita Chaney Barnett; two granddaughters, Hope Herdler and her husband Kevin, and Heather Barnett all of La Grange; three great-grandchildren, Logan and Laney Herdler, and Trey Cunningham of La Grange; one sister-in-law, Minnie Geer of Bowie; one brother-in-law, Arnold Pitchford of Weatherford, and numerous special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister-in-law Lil Pitchford, and brothers-in-law Claude Hewett and Jesse Geer.
